Netflix Streaming to the PS3!

It’s official! PS3 will now have the ability to stream Netflix but the downside is, you will need to run the Netflix CD in order to stream, instead of the XBOX 360 approach of a simple firmware update that natively enables the device to stream.

Looking at CNN to find a decent news story (kinda hard now a days) I came across an interesting project that is sponsored by VW and it entails making people’s daunting tasks, fun. Like walking up stairs as opposed to taking the escalator.

Tilt Shift Photography

Over my month of laziness of not blogging, I found a really cool photography style that has been used for a long time but has been reshifted to make photos look as if they are actually miniatures. If that’s not clear, check out the video below to really see the impact this simple, spatial effect can create with photos. The reason why this is so effective is the effect itself takes your sense of space totally away from you and leaves you to fend for yourself and make sense of it.

Letterpress Collection Starter

A new feature I want to include into this blog experiment is to display my love and collection of different pieces of design. From my camera collection to my antique printing materials to pieces of artwork to design books I highly recommend even if they collect dust on your coffee table.

To kick this off, I will introduce you to my Helvetica Bold Italic 14 pt Lead Alloy typeset I purchased off of eBay.

If you arn’t familiar with lead type, it was used to print anything from newspapers to magazines to everything in between.

Each letter (which was backwards to accomidate for a legible end product) would be aligned and formed into words and then the group of words would have ink rolled over top so it would hit the top surface (letter area). Then a piece of paper would be strategically placed on top of the type area, ran through a pressured press which would transfer the ink to the paper, and wha la you have a letterpressed piece of document.

Too bad you have to roll ink over top of the area almost every time you print. Thinking about how labor-intensive this could have been blows my mind and makes me appreciate my Canon laser printer that much more.

Drink from a Sigg

Over this past weekend I purchased a kick ass water bottle for a pretty cheap amount of money. Who thought water bottles could be cool? Not me, but this one is both classic and pretty sexy of a product.

Weening myself off of purchasing plastic water bottles has been pretty easy and now having this to drink water from is increasing the water intake. The below retails for $24 and is well worth the purchase.

Stumbling across the internet, I found a site that lets you send live updates (like Twitter) but requires you to at least type 1,400 characters in order to WOOF!

Funny concept, and great for the serious macro bloggers that want to let people write novels about their short walk down to the grocery store.

Koenigsegg CCX

Looking around on the Koenigsegg website, I came across every sane man’s dream. A Koenigsegg. All though costing more than a million dollars, the craftsmanship and design on this car is at the pinnacle of top notch. Each car is handmade in a “cleanroom” and assembled to a strict degree. After assembly, it is then test drove for performance and to tweak any elements that might be off from perfect. The spec’s will just make any one drool.
